Preparations for Easter

Are you busy preparing your church for Easter but have run out of ways to bring people in? If so, then look no further. Here are 4 key tips in helping you to prepare for this all-important time of year.

Easter is a memorable time of the year for both Christians and non-Christians. It is an opportunity to present the miracle of the resurrection power of Jesus to the world. It is an avenue of new hope and new birth and new beginnings to many people out there who are depressed and lost.

With the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic over the past 2 years, Easter Celebrations were not maximized to the benefit of the church. Most churches had services online which, most people agree, cannot be compared to in-person meetings. The effects of COVID 19 this year have reduced drastically which makes this year’s Easter a promising one. Glory to God!!

As with any major celebration, the success of Easter depends on the effectiveness of the plans made prior to the main event(s).

Most churches will generally witness an increase in membership and general participation of members during Easter time, particularly Easter Sunday. Therefore, Easter for the church should be used as an opportunity to deepen the roots of the church and strengthen it.

So, how do you plan for Easter as a church?

    1. Plan and Organise Events

The success of most churches during Easter comes from their creativity in event organization. Most people are looking forward to the Easter holidays as they have missed attending the creative Easter events.

There are several events that your church can organise. Here are some examples:

    • You can plan a gospel Crusade to proclaim the good news of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

    • Movie Nights almost always promises a high turnout. You can plan one with a special focus on the youth.

    • And oh music!! Music is food to the soul. You can put together a musical concert for all to join in worshipping and praising Jesus Christ. I doubt anyone would want to miss such an atmosphere.

    2. Increase Social Media Engagement

The emergence of Covid 19, has caused the use of social media to surge drastically especially among the youth. Invest in and increase your engagement in social media as a church to promote your planned Easter Events. Create challenges, engage people, and create the ‘hype’ for the events. Creativity and Innovation are the main keys here.

    3.  Prepare for the Harvest

Design creative invitation cards to be sent out either electronically, mailed out, or even handed out in the streets to be able to invite the masses for the Easter events. You would be surprised how many people are out there who would love to be invited to an Easter event. Go on, give it a try!

You will need to design visitor’s cards for the events. The cards should be very creative, but very simple to complete. This will be used to help you gather the key details of visitors in your church during Easter. This will come in handy during follow up engagements.

    4.  Encourage Volunteering

So, you now have your events ready and prepared. However, the organization of Easter Events brings about the challenge of resources, especially human resources. You may not be able to afford to hire the services of additional professionals all throughout the events.

Encourage the church members to volunteer in support of the planned events. You can encourage your members to volunteer in different aspects of the preparations for the events such as media, ushering, car park attendants and many more.

Although hospitality is the responsibility of the whole church, you should nevertheless, have in place a great hospitality team who will be on hand at your events to welcome guests, especially newcomers.

I hope that these 4 key tips will help you in preparing for an incredibly blessed Easter Season!
